Harrison County was founded in 1839 by the Republic of Texas on the eastern edge of the new country.  The county became one of the largest and richest in antebellum Texas. 

The Madi Art Wall, created by artist Volf Roitman, was a gift to the City Of Marshall from the Michelson Museum and Edmund & Anna Wood. Construction of the Wall, supervised by Curtis Graff, was completed in December of 2009.

Marshall Symphony Society offers the East Texas area a cultural opportunity to experience an enriched life resplendent with excellence in music through quality performances, featuring talented artists and encouraging gifted youth.

The Michelson Museum of Art was established after Janine Michelson of New York City and Paris, France, widow of artist Leo Michelson, selected Marshall, Texas, as the permanent home for her husband’s work. Her consideration of Marshall was suggested by Wendy Russell Reves, a Marshall native and friend of the Michelsons.

In April 1984, the idea for the Texas Shakespeare Festival at Kilgore College was developed: to establish a professional summer theatre for East Texas based in Kilgore that would be housed in the Van Cliburn Auditorium; to create a company with a name that would have broad appeal to professional theatre artists, employing high caliber actors, designers and directors from throughout the nation; to offer professional actors and theatre students the luxury of working on plays from the world’s storehouse of dramatic literary masterpieces; and to create a regional play about the East Texas oilfield discovery to be produced as a cultural historical memento of our unique and colorful heritage.

Maegan Kirschner created The Artist's Circle Online Art Gallery as a platform for both emerging and established artists to share their work publicly. Unique themed calls for art will open opportunities for all mediums of work to be shared with collectors.

The Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet was founded in 1973 as Ballet Lyrique by a group of citizens who wanted to give local dancers a performing outlet and to bring classical ballet into the Shreveport-Bossier Community. The Ballet has been operating continuously since that time, making it one of the oldest arts organizations in Shreveport-Bossier.
